Heart Dogs

Ray CGC win!

Next month it will two years since Ray came home to us. I have always loved dogs…and each one who has lived with me has a permanent place in my heart. But every once in awhile a dog comes along who is more than the sum of his parts. If you are lucky you will know a dog like that. I call them “heart dogs” because it is almost as if your hearts beat as one. When I was 15 years old I adopted a puppy from the local junkyard. He was covered in fleas and had a horrible case of worms. I took him home, cleaned him up, and named him Fangorn the Ent (yes, I am a LOTR geek). He was my heart dog…and I never expected to repeat that experience.

Ray is my second heart dog. We are together 24 hours a day. I spend more time with him than any other living being. I am always aware of where he is, what he’s doing and how he’s feeling. In the past year, we’ve spent 3 days apart. I am incredibly blessed and incredibly lucky to have this boy in my life.

Say what you will about Michael Vick…but if he hadn’t had Bad Newz Kennels…I would never have had this incredibly powerful relationship. Thank you Tamara Dormer for teaching me the things I needed to know to bring our boy home. Thank you Ray the Vicktory Dog for choosing us to be your family. I love you.

  1. Oddly enough, my heart dog is also named Ray and we are as inseparable as can be (Unfortunately he can’t accompany me to work) and I have only been away from him overnight for a handful of days since he came to live with me. Next week will be huge for us as I leave him for a whole week and will be coming to Utah!
